Key Areas of Training

Excel

For beginners and experts alike, FTFA’s immersive and engaging style of teaching Excel truly differentiates us. Concepts are applied to templates specifically designed to foster rapid skill integration and to translate into immediate real-world performance improvement. We also work on-demand with your specific data, eliminating the classroom-to-desk gap. Beyond the Excel platform itself, you will also discover how to think differently about data and how it relates to your specific job function.

accounting

Our focus is on historical analysis and interpretation of past performance / company dynamics for forecasting, valuation, M&A modeling, creditworthiness assessment and other financial purposes. We also provide you with the tools to better understand and effectively calculate key “non-accounting” financial metrics (cleaned earnings, EBIT / EBITDA, among others). These concepts are taught with real published financials and are fully integrated with realistic templates to produce tangible skills at the desk.

M&A AND lbo MODELING and analysis

We utilize landmark M&A and LBO transactions as case studies for understanding the fundamentals of modeling and the analysis of acquisitions. In addition to providing participants with mastery of every step in an acquisition analysis (structuring, funding, forecasting, and calculation of KEY financial metrics), we emphasize critical thinking about earnings and return impacts, credit consequences, and market perception.

forecasting

Integrated with our Excel and Accounting courses, we utilize clear step-by-step guides to forecasting and produce a consistent output: proficient modelers, capable of generating self-correcting and internally consistent models. You will master the skills necessary to plan the right model layout, make macro- and company-specific assumptions, with the appropriate level of detail and complexity needed for your specific purpose. You will also develop the expertise to understand, analyze, modify and correct models designed both by colleagues and by third parties.

APPLIED valuation

FTFA’s approach to valuation is three-pronged: first emphasize the fundamental framework utilized by the majority of practitioners for valuing any asset, not just corporations (projects, financial instruments including derivatives, etc.). We then immerse participants in applied valuation, working through modeling and practicing the steps necessary to execute any valuation exercise (for purposes including transaction advisory, research, asset management, etc.). Finally, we emphasize the interpretation of valuation outputs and demonstrate how to craft an effective presentation of your valuation thesis.

CORPORATE Credit ASSESSMENT AND RATING

We explore credit assessment for corporates. Every fundamental concept is applied in original fully-dynamic models which allow for rapid simulations with emphasis on scenario management / “what ifs”. This approach yields significant learning leaps for finance professionals, especially for those of basic to intermediate proficiency in credit analysis.

fundamentals of fixed income ANALYSIS

FTFA’s teaching methodology for fixed-income analysis goes far beyond the math. We explore in depth (with simulation models) an integrated approach to pricing dynamics, macro-, sector- and company-specific variables. In addition to learning the pricing of concrete instruments, our aim is for you to develop a comprehensive understanding of this sector — you will become proficient in the creation of your own views on future performance for both sector- and instrument-specific in the context of asset management / investment allocations.
